On Friday we headed to the 45th Annual Yarmouth Clam Festival where Cesar enjoyed haddock fingers, I ate sweet potato fries, and we all ate delicious whoopie pies and blueberry pie. We also drank a lime rickey (the real kind, not a Brow!) and it was very refreshing. Even though it was a work day, there were tons of people there, however everything was very organized. It took us about one second at each food counter to get our food. Impressive. I forced the children to look around the craft tables before we headed over to the rides. Che went in this absolutely hilarious huge ball filled with air that was in a giant pool of water. He had to try to run in it like a hamster in a wheel to move around the pool. It was too funny. Then he went on his first ferris wheel with Cesar, which, after Disney World, did not really impress him very much. Then we headed over to the Mad Scientist performance and Che was enthralled. The "scientist" did a bunch of entertaining experiments using dry ice and let the kids touch some of the results. Che absolutely loved it.
On Saturday we left early for the farmers' market and playground. Che and Sabine played for a long time and then we went to a delicious Mexican restaurant where both of our children actually ate their food- hallelujah! When we were finished we went to Smiling Hill Farm, a dairy farm that bottles its own milk in glass bottles and in a billion different flavors (Che bought a strawberry one). They also have an excellent petting farm with a bunch of fun wooden things to play on. We all had a good time and I decided that my 5th career will be to run a petting farm.
Sunday we woke up very early, packed our bags, loaded the kids in the car and headed 1 hour and 1/2 away to the White Mountains where there was a trail that led to a beautiful pool at the base of a small waterfall called Emerald Pool. It was very deep and very cold and there were huge rocks you could jump off of into the pool. I loved it--and Cesar went in! If it hadn't been so cold we would have stayed a lot longer. We all had a lot of fun, but Che's constant teeth chattering made me a little nervous so we headed home. It was a really beautiful spot though, and besides feeling lost several times along the way because our Garmin and iPad would not work, it was an excellent trip!
Che is still interested in becoming a grown-up as soon as possible. The other day in the car he asked when he was going to get to be a "daddy". And we had a whole talk about what has to happen first; not that kind of talk though... He finally decided that he would meet his wife in college and that he wants her to have braids.
Sabine's new thing, besides copying absolutely everything we say and also wanting to do everything we do, is saying "No, I'm Bine" any time you say something like, "You are cute", or "You are funny." Too funny.
