On to Savannah

Our ride to Savannah was a little more eventful than the one to Disney. The kids both slept for the first two hours or so, but by hour three they were awake and it began to rain, lightening, and thunder. At the same exact time, Sabine began screaming "Ninny, night-night" and the three-lane highway turned into a two-lane highway because of construction, and we started to go over bridges. As large semis raced past us I closed my eyes and invoked the "Jesus Loves" message I saw the day before. I also tried to remember the instructions for how to escape from a submerged vehicle just in case we skidded into the river. We pulled over so I could feed Sabine (and because I was stressing out from the rain) and the storm pretty much passed. The highway became three lanes again, but Sabine continued to cry. Finally we got into Savannah; however, there were so many stoplights leading to the Beauchamps' house that we kept losing time on the GPS and it seemed like we perpetually had ten minutes to go to get there. At this point Che started squirming because he had to go pee, but we made it and Che made it to the potty. It was great seeing the Beauchamp clan and Thoreau. We ate delicious Mexican food, the kids all played, and then decided they wanted to make a tent in Devin's room and have a sleep over. We gave it twenty minutes, but it really lasted about two. So, all the kids moved into their own rooms and Cesar tried to get Che to sleep in the guest room where he proceeded to tell him that there were strange shapes (thanks a lot Bedtime for Francis) and that he didn't think this whole vacation thing was "going to work out" and that we should take a plane back to St. Croix because he missed Kaeden. Luckily he fell asleep (although Cesar had to sleep with him on Che's twin-size air mattress) and he woke up fine and ready to start the day. We went to a yummy pancake breakfast fundraiser that Melissa's sister organized, I got a Starbucks coffee (praise Jah, because the coffee at WDW was AWFUL!), and then the kids played at this terrific bouncy place. I also got to stop in a Target and witness how the suburban stateside folks get to shop--lots of variety, stocked shelves, good customer service, plenty of carts, no lines, and half of the price as STX. We are off to a date night tonight courtesy of Melissa's mom-- thank you Nana!
